Teaching
Philosophy
In my classes, I employ a variety of pedagogical methods to create an engaging learning environment. I believe in experiential learning and incorporate current business news and exposure to “real-world” issues by sharing my own industry experience and inviting business leaders to speak in class whenever possible. In-class activities, student presentations, and role-plays are used to reinforce concepts and provide students with experience speaking in front of an audience.
In upper level courses, I involve my students in team projects with real-world clients to promote practical application of the skills learned in the classroom. As an advocate of service-learning, I frequently collaborate with non-profit community organizations for course projects. Service-learning is a form of experiential education and benefits students by providing them with hands-on marketing experience, while also enhancing their sense of civic responsibility (Bringle, Hatcher, and McIntosh, 2006). Regardless of the type of project, students always receive detailed feedback from me on all components of their projects and presentations to promote evaluation and reflection. Overall, I strive to provide students with knowledge and skills that they can use in both their academic and business careers.
